Schmidt Lab in the Triangle Soft Matter Workshop, May 2025

The Schmidt Lab participated in the Triangle Soft Matter Workshop held in May 2025 at Duke University. This annual event brings together researchers from Duke University, UNC Chapel Hill, and NC State University to foster collaboration and highlight recent advances in soft matter, biophysics, and materials science.

Schmidt group showcased posters highlighting diverse directions in cellular mechanics and soft matter physics:

  1. Mechanical Responses of Suspended Cells in Different Environments Can Be Explained by a Shell Model

  2. Tracking Non-Equilibrium Fluctuations in the Cytoplasm and the Nucleus Using Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes

  3. Mechanics of Isolated Nuclei: From Enucleation to Optical Tweezers Microrheology

  4. Bacteria Need Excess Membrane Area to Prevent Rupture Under Turgor Pressure
